Climate Action and Sustainable Development delivers integrated, evidence-based solutions that address climate risk while advancing inclusive economic growth. Our programs are designed to translate policy into action, mobilize investment, and strengthen resilience at the community and national levels.

Program 01

🔬 Climate Research & Knowledge Management

Effective climate action begins with credible data and context-specific evidence.

CASD mobilizes resources to conduct targeted research that informs mitigation, adaptation, and resilience strategies. We commission applied research aligned with national climate priorities, partner with relevant government ministries and agencies to strengthen public-sector research capacity, recruit and mentor young university researchers to institutionalize climate science and policy analysis, and engage specialized external researchers where technical expertise is required.

By embedding research within national systems and developing the next generation of climate professionals, we ensure that climate interventions are data-driven, locally grounded, and sustainable over the long term.

📢 Advocacy & Climate Finance

Climate action requires broad societal ownership and strategic investment.

CASD designs and implements strategic Information, Education, and Communication campaigns to mobilize citizens, civil society, policymakers, and private-sector actors. Our advocacy priorities include raising national awareness on climate risks and opportunities, promoting inclusive stakeholder participation in climate decision-making, advocating for equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms from carbon sequestration and forest conservation, and advancing climate finance integration into public budgeting and private investment planning.

We work to ensure that climate change considerations are embedded in financial systems, development frameworks, and national investment strategies.

Climate adaptation and ecosystem restoration

Program 03

🌿 Climate Adaptation & Ecosystem Restoration

As climate impacts intensify, adaptation becomes essential for safeguarding communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems.

CASD advances structural, ecological, social, and institutional adaptation solutions. Mangroves are among the most effective natural defenses against sea-level rise, storm surges, and coastal erosion. CASD is restoring and expanding mangrove ecosystems along Liberia's vulnerable coastal belt, with initial implementation concentrated in Grand Bassa and Sinoe Counties, strengthening both climate resilience and carbon storage capacity.

We are running a five-year campaign to plant and sustain the first 1 million trees including mangroves, coconut trees, and other native species. Our fundraising target is US$5 million over five years, equivalent to US$5 per tree, covering planting, maintenance, monitoring, and community engagement. CASD also promotes drought-resistant crop varieties, climate-smart farming techniques, and sustainable land and water management practices.

Program 04

⚡ Climate Mitigation

Mitigation is essential to limit global temperature rise by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing carbon sinks.

CASD's mitigation initiatives focus on practical, scalable solutions including energy efficiency and energy-saving initiatives, clean cookstove programs to reduce deforestation and indoor air pollution, biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management, climate-smart agribusiness development, climate education and green financing initiatives, and capacity building for vulnerable youth and women in green enterprises and climate leadership.

Through these programs, we reduce emissions, promote sustainable livelihoods, and stimulate green economic growth across Liberia and the wider West African region.

Technical assistance and capacity building

Program 05

🤝 Technical Assistance & Capacity Building

CASD provides technical services under its sustainable development program through technical assistance and management consultancies.

Focus areas include project and program management, evaluations, education, health, agriculture, youth and women empowerment including people with disabilities. The CASD CEO has provided technical assistance to the Government of Liberia, the World Bank, and the Global Partnership for Education particularly through the Ministry of Education, including education governance advisory services, capacity development, and resource mobilization.
