The Climate Imperative

Climate change is no longer a distant threat — it is a present and escalating reality. Across the globe, shifting weather patterns, rising temperatures, and extreme climate events are reshaping economies and ecosystems. Nowhere are these impacts more pronounced than in Liberia and West Africa, where communities depend directly on natural resources for survival and growth.

Liberia holds 43% of the Upper Guinean Forest — one of the world's most biodiverse ecosystems. Yet deforestation, coastal erosion, and erratic rainfall threaten millions who depend on these resources. CASD works at the intersection of climate science and community action to reverse this trajectory.

Africa contributes less than 4% of global carbon emissions — yet bears the most devastating consequences of a crisis it did not create. From Liberia's vanishing rainforests to the Sahel's expanding deserts, from rising seas swallowing coastal communities to droughts displacing millions across East Africa — the climate emergency is not a future threat. It is today's reality.

Liberia: A Critical Climate Frontier

Liberia contains approximately 7.5 million hectares of tropical forest — 43% of the remaining Upper Guinean Forest, a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot. These forests store vast quantities of carbon, protect water catchments, and support rural livelihoods.

Our Mission

To advance truth-driven climate action by supporting adaptation, mitigation, and resilience through sustainable development solutions.

Our Vision

To become the premier climate-focused organization leading private-sector engagement in climate action across Liberia and West Africa by 2035.

"Liberia holds 43% of the Upper Guinean Forest. We are here to make sure it stays that way — for this generation and every generation that follows."

The Climate Crisis Demands Coordinated Leadership

CASD offers a platform for governments, donors, foundations, and private-sector actors to translate climate ambition into measurable impact.
